The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing describes the skin-to-skin contact of an infant to its mother as Kangaroo Care (KC). Developed in 1983 as a therapeutic technique, it reduced the rate of mortality in preemies from 70% to 30%.

This little “Joey” is enjoying the same privilege in it’s mommy’s pouch, developing into an independent offspring at 7 to 10 months of age from its miniscule birth size of 1” and weighing less than a gram.
